Q. Introduce yourself in one sentence

A rosé drinking, skin care enthusiast who adores avocados, Manchester United, the Royal Family and terrible television (of the reality variety).

Emily Cooke, Ceres PR

Q. How long have you been at Ceres? What’s your role?

I celebrated my first Ceres birthday in April. I am an Account Manager and work across both PR and social media.

Q. How did you get into PR? What made you want to choose it as a career?

My journey to PR was quite a long winded one but I very much have my mum to thank for it… Media was a subject in school that I excelled in, so when choosing my university degree, my mum suggested I look into it! Initially I wanted to be a TV presenter, so I started exploring broadcast journalism and after three years liaising with PRs, I felt that I would be better suited behind the camera than in front! I love sharing information with people and teaching them something they may not have known before. So, I moved to London, started work experience and never looked back.

Q. What’s your favourite part of the job?

I am really looking forward to the time we can do media visits  again. There’s something about face to face conversation which really allows you to talk freely about your client in a more natural environment. It’s also great to show them your product in person and not just build a professional relationship, but a friendship too. It also allows you to understand their content better and what they are and aren’t looking for. I'm a big fan of chatting on the phone too and of course seeing the coverage after all your hard work, but who doesn’t love getting coverage?!

Q. What’s a stand out piece of coverage/content you have been a part of that you’re proud of?

I recently generated a two-page feature for Tarantella Tomatoes, which looked incredible on page, but a real stand out piece for me was for National Rice Week last year. On my very first day at Ceres I went into London for what was our first meeting with The Rice Association to discuss our plans for National Rice Week so you could call it my first client! Food to Love Magazine published the most incredible 8-page feature on all things rice, from the different types, through to our selection of rice recipes and the health benefits. I was so excited I must have bought about 5 copies of the magazine! It’s such a shame, that like many other publications, Food to Love magazine has put a halt on the magazine now, but it’s still one I keep on my desk!

Q. What’s been your best Ceres moment?

For the Christmas party we went to Ping Pong and got to make (and eat) delicious dim sum followed by a cocktail making class, which was very fun. There were prizes for the best dim sum and cocktails and I was very happy to take home a bottle of prosecco after winning the cocktail making competition!

Q. If you could work with any brand in the world, who would it be and why?

This is a tough question! Disney is definitely up there, but food wise, it would have to be Charlie Bigham. Charlie Bigham Friday’s are a regular occurrence in my household and we’re big fans – in fact, since lockdown, we seem to have Charlie Bigham Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays too! Away from food, and I’m sure this will come as no surprise to my peers, it would have to be the royal family or Manchester United.

Q. What’s your favourite dish?

Another tough one! My dad is a chef and has a restaurant in Dorset, so I’m very fortunate to try different dishes all the time. For that reason, I couldn’t possibly choose a favourite dish because I simply love food. Brunch has to be one of my favourite mealtimes however, because the options are endless. Toast, pastries, granola, fruit, full English breakfast, pancakes, avocado…. If I could have a three-course breakfast most days, I would be very happy! I also love a good roast dinner and Thai curry!

Q. If you were stranded on a desert island, what would be the one item you’d take?

My initial thought was a book or my face cleansers, but they would eventually run out and I would probably finish the book quite quickly, so I’m going to go with something a bit more solid and say a pillow! I love my sleep, so that would help.
