Q. Introduce yourself in one sentence
Fan of social media, country music, Newcastle United and a good beer – oh and bumbling father of two!
Q. How long have you been at Ceres? What’s your role?
12 ½ years (yes that’s not a typo). I’m a Senior Account Director and lead on Ceres’ digital activity.
Q. How did you get into PR/Digital/Content Creation? What made you want to choose it as a career?
After studying journalism at University, I decided I’d rather help shape the news than write about it (like John Cusack in High Fidelity, my dream job of being a Rolling Stone journalist from 1976-1979 was slightly unobtainable!) and set out to join a PR team. I was lucky to find one in my home town, and I’ve been here ever since – although the job is very different now to when I started
Q. What’s your favourite part of the job?
I’m a numbers person at heart (my Dad was an accountant and at one time it looked like I was heading that way) so I love working with data, but doing it in a PR role lets me tap into my creative side too. It’s great to be able to analyse the results of a campaign – whether that’s engagement, web visits, or audience retention on a video – to see what worked (and learn from what didn’t).
Q. What’s a stand out piece of coverage/content you have been a part of that you’re proud of?
Although my focus now is digital, in my early years at Ceres I was involved in quite a lot of news generation. My all-time favourite ever piece of coverage was an article looking at how chips and ironing boards shared similar smell profiles. We’ve worked with some fabulous people over the years – and one of the most delightful of these was the lovely Melinda Messenger. We filmed at her house, and she couldn’t have been more welcoming – the kettle was on even before the front door was closed!
Q. If you could work with any brand in the world, who would it be and why?
Newcastle United – they consistently need some good PR!
Q. What’s your favourite dish?
A bowl! (I’ll get my coat!)Seriously though it has to be pizza – it’s a great comfort food, but can also be quite foodie and unique depending on our toppings and how creative you are feeling – it’s the perfect food!
Q. If you were stranded on a desert island, what would be the one item you’d take?
My Brennan Hard Drive and speakers – it has all my CDs loaded on to it so means I’d always be able to listen to music – even with no internet access! (Desert islands do have plugs don’t they!??)
