Christmas is the time for giving...

We all know that Christmas is the time of year when we should all put extra effort into properly thinking about others, but sometimes with all the business of the festivities it doesn't always happen quite as we'd like. But this year as you can read below two members of the Ceres team have special reasons for thinking of others and we felt it right to join them in supporting these causes which are rightly so close to their hearts. So there will be no Christmas cards this year – just an equivalent donation to these charities to help a little with the vital work they do…

“I nominated Prostate Cancer UK as it’s a charity that means a lot to my family. In recent years both my dad and my father-in-law have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Luckily my dad’s was caught in time and prognosis for the future is good. We weren’t as lucky with my father-in-law who passed away just a few months after meeting his first grandchild. Hopefully this donation will play a part in helping the charity carry on with their work fighting cancer, and supporting other families who are affected by what is the most common cancer in men in the UK.” - David

“My chosen charity this year is the Alzheimer’s Society. It can be difficult seeing someone you love slowly disappear. For a while, it was like my mum was on a bit of elastic springing between compos mentis and confusion. Then one day the elastic snapped and that was it. As the sole relative I suddenly became responsible for every aspect of her life, which is where the Alzheimer’s society helped. They are always on hand to offer guidance on everything from financial entitlements, housing, clubs and societies and support for me as a carer too. Sadly, this disease will affect most of us in some way either directly or indirectly, and I know I am not the only one in the office who has a relative with this condition. This donation will go towards vital research in eradicating the disease and to help provide support to those dealing with it now”. - Sara
